Visioning Committee - A New Vision for Fort Lauderdale

In 2010 the City Commission established a Visioning Committee to spearhead a community initiative to outline a vision for Fort Lauderdale’s future.  The Committee’s charge is two-fold:

  • Determine the most effective way to reach out to the community to seek input on the vision for Fort Lauderdale from all individuals, including those that are under-represented;
  • Use the information obtained to craft a citywide vision that reflects the hopes and viewpoints of all stakeholders and will guide the City Commission in their future policy and decision making.

Chaired by former City Commissioner Tim Smith, the 11-member Committee represents diverse experience in banking, real estate, development, smart growth and government.  Other members of the Committee include Vice Chair Stanley Eichelbaum and former City Commissioner Gloria Katz.

  • View the list of all board and committee members PDF File with contact information (you'll need to scroll down to the end of the file to see the Visioning Committee information; boards and committees are listed alphabetically).

Share Your Vision with Us

The Committee’s primary objective is to gather input from every neighborhood in our diverse community.  No idea is too big or small; if it’s important to you, it’s important to the Committee and they want to hear from you!

Please send an e-mail with your ideas to visioning@fortlauderdale.gov.  You can also provide input in person at a Visioning Committee meeting.  For more information on participating at a Visioning Committee meeting, please see the next section.

Suggest Names for the Visioning Effort!

The Visioning Committee is looking for a name for the citywide outreach initiative and overall visioning process, e.g. "New Century, New City," or "One Voice, One Vision."  If you have a suggestion of a name to brand this initiative, please send an e-mail to visioning@fortlauderdale.gov or contact the Committee liaison at (954) 828-4743.

Attend an Upcoming Visioning Committee Meeting

The Visioning Committee typically meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the 8th floor conference room of City Hall, located at 100 North Andrews Avenue.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend Committee meetings, which always include time for public input.  If you are interested in attending a meeting to provide input, please consult a meeting agenda or contact the Committee liaison to confirm the date, time and location of the next meeting.
