Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2011 and Monday, January 2, 2012. The following information outlines changes to the City’s residential solid waste services schedule for the 2011/2012 holiday season and offers guidelines for tree disposal.
2011/2012 Residential Solid Waste Schedule
Christmas and New Year’s Day – Sunday, December 25, 2011 and Sunday, January 1, 2012
The City does not provide solid waste services (e.g., garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk trash) on Sundays. As a result, there will be no changes to any solid waste pickup schedules on Christmas or New Year’s Day.
Monday, December 26, 2011
The City will only be providing bulk trash service to the Melrose Park neighborhood whose regular pickup day is the fourth Monday of the month on Monday, December 26. All other residents whose regular bulk trash pickup day is the fourth Monday of the month will receive service on Thursday, December 29. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste services will be provided according to the regular pickup schedule.
Tree Disposal Guidelines
The City of Fort Lauderdale encourages residents to recycle their holiday trees by offering the options below:
- Dispose of trees inside the green yard waste cart,
- Leave trees out for bulk trash pickup,
- Take trees to one of the Broward County’s designated parks as part of the Chip-A-Tree Program, or
- Take trees to one of Broward County’s three Trash Transfer Stations.
Yard Waste Cart Disposal
If trees are placed in the City’s yard waste cart, they must be cut into pieces so the lid can close completely.
Bulk Trash Disposal
Residents who choose to use the bulk trash pickup option should leave trees next to their bulk pile. To properly recycle trees, all decorations, lights, tinsel, nails, tacks, tree stands, or any other decorative materials must be removed.
