Traffic Advisory: Fourth Annual 13.1 Marathon Set for Sunday, November 13

Fort Lauderdale - The 4th Annual Fort Lauderdale 13.1 Marathon returns to the streets of downtown Fort Lauderdale and Fort Lauderdale Beach on Sunday, November 13. Motorists should expect traffic delays in and around the area during the morning hours.
Organizers anticipate in excess of 2,500 participants for this half marathon event.
Beginning at 6a, motorists may experience delays on the 17th Street Causeway, downtown on Federal Highway, SE 16th Avenue, Las Olas Boulevard and at the beach along A1A. The most significant delay will occur between the hours of 6a – 7a when the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard at E. Las Olas Boulevard is closed to allow participants to cross the street. Otherwise, vehicular traffic will have mobility through the beach area via alternate routes. The race concludes at 10a.

- Finish Line Set Up: Begins at Midnight, Saturday, November 12, South Beach Park Lot
- Start Line Set Up: Begins at 1a, Sunday, November 13, SE 17 Street Causeway
- Starting times: Wheelchairs at 6:03a; Runners at 6:13a
- Last runner in and roads cleared: 10a
Route:
From the starting line at SE 17 Street at Eisenhower Boulevard, the route continues west to Federal Highway, north to Broward Boulevard, east to SE 16 Avenue, south to E. Las Olas Boulevard, east to A1A, north to NE 40 Street, turnaround, returning south on A1A to the finish line at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Park at 900 Seabreeze Boulevard.
Road closings - Pre Race set up:
- Cone set-ups will begin at approximately 2a, Sunday, November 13
- Mobile Message Sign Boards announcing traffic detours will be placed throughout the length of the course in accordance with the Department of Transportation
- Vehicular traffic will not be permitted in the northbound lanes of A1A through the duration of this event from approximately 800 Seabreeze Boulevard to 3000 North A1A. These lanes will be restricted for the use of the race participants. Vehicular traffic will still have mobility through the beach area, except for the period from 6a to 7a at the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and East Las Olas Boulevard.
- Traffic will be diverted into single lanes, north and south, utilizing the two southbound lanes of A1A/Seabreeze Boulevard
- Beachside parallel parking will be permitted on A1A between Sunrise Boulevard and the 1900 block of A1A through the duration of this event. Parallel parking along the west side of A1A in this area will be permitted as safety and traffic permits.
- During the hour-long closure (6a-7a) at the intersection of Seabreeze Boulevard and E. Las Olas Boulevard, traffic will be redirected as follows:
- Southbound Seabreeze Boulevard traffic will be directed to Cortez Street west along East Las Olas Boulevard Circle. Following the circle along the Intracoastal Waterway, traffic will enter east onto East Las Olas Boulevard at Seabreeze Boulevard to continue south on Seabreeze to Federal Highway/US 1 via A1A/SE 17 Street
- Northbound A1A/Seabreeze Boulevard/SE 17 Street Causeway traffic will be permitted to proceed northbound to East Las Olas Boulevard and will be directed west to SE 15 Avenue or to US1 between 6a – 7a to continue north through the City
- Both directions of Seabreeze Boulevard traffic will resume as normal in the area counter flow lanes set up in the southbound lanes of Seabreeze Boulevard once the last runners clear this area of Seabreeze Blvd at E. Las Olas Boulevard
To ensure public safety, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department will have over 100 officers stationed along the route to guide pedestrians and motorists. Affected area roadways will re-open to traffic as the race progresses and safety permits.
