Fort Lauderdale - “The City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County and the Broward Sheriff’s Office all agree that public safety is our top priority. We are all committed to ensuring the safety and protection of our residents, businesses and visitors,” said Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. “Jack” Seiler.

With that in mind, the City, County and Sheriff’s Office have been working diligently to address funding issues for the emergency dispatch operations for the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Thanks to the cooperative efforts of the three governmental entities, we are pleased to announce that an agreement is now in place that will enable the Broward Sheriff’s Office to continue to provide emergency dispatch services to the City of Fort Lauderdale through Thursday, October 6, 2011.

On October 6, a joint meeting between the Fort Lauderdale City Commission and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Broward Governmental Center. This meeting will provide both the City and the County with an opportunity to further examine this issue and work toward a mutually acceptable long-term solution.

The City of Fort Lauderdale would like to thank Broward County and the Broward Sheriff’s Office for taking the necessary steps to ensure that the Sheriff’s Office can continue to fulfill its responsibility of providing these vital services to our residents, businesses and visitors.
