City of Fort Lauderdale Issues Precautionary Advisory Against Use of Inland Recreational Waters in Seminole Canal

Fort Lauderdale (9-27-11) - The City of Fort Lauderdale, in consultation with the Broward County Health Department, is advising the public of sewage contamination in the recreational waters in the Seminole Canal. Residents and businesses located on the following streets whose properties abut the Seminole Canal should avoid swimming, fishing, jetskiing, or any water-related activities in the canal:
- Northern boundary: S.E. 15th Street
- Southern boundary: S.E. 16th Street and Portside Drive
- Western boundary: Cordova Road
- Eastern boundary: Intracoastal Waterway
The precautionary advisory is the result of a 48” sewer line break that occurred this afternoon at the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant.
This advisory will be in effect until further notice.
