Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Worldwide Day of Play

Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department is proud to participate in the Worldwide Day of Play on Saturday, September 24 with the following free activities scheduled:
15th Annual Big Toy and Truck Extravaganza
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Holiday Park, 1150 G. Harold Martin Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304
Children of all ages will enjoy this free event, which offers an up close look at a variety of cars, trucks and specialized equipment while encouraging hands-on activity. More than 30 vehicles will be on display allowing children, teens and adults an opportunity to view, climb and explore a fire engine, fire-rescue and ladder trucks, a front loader, SWAT and bomb squad vehicles, bucket trucks, a school bus, marine patrol boat, electric cart and more.
Free Tennis Clinic
11 a.m. – noon
George English Tennis Center, 1101 Bayview Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304
Sample our premiere junior tennis clinics by attending a free one! Children ages 8-12 are invited to participate in this free tennis clinic. Children will learn proper stroke technique and footwork to improve their games.
Family Sports & Game Day
10 a.m. – noon
Osswald Park, 2220 N.W. 21st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311
Enjoy old-fashioned, family games such as 3-legged races, sack races, egg tosses and more! Fit Kidz Club members will participate in intramural games of basketball, rugby, soccer and tennis!
Wacky Water Games
2 – 4 p.m.
Riverland Park, 950 S.W. 27th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312
Stay cool in the pool while enjoying some wacky water games. The entire family will unite to compete in the best novelty competitions such as the popular inner tube relays!
The City of Fort Lauderdale supports Nickelodeon, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, and the National Park Foundation in celebrating Worldwide Day of Play. The goal of the Worldwide Day of Play is to ensure that today’s generation of kids becomes one of the healthiest by encouraging children to be physically active and to promote positive, healthy, and playful lifestyles across the globe.
