Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale announces a speed limit change on East Las Olas Boulevard between Andrews Avenue and SE 15th Avenue. The speed limit in this area is now 25 miles per hour.
Motorists are urged to adhere to the new speed limit as well as watch out for pedestrians in the area.
Motorists are reminded of the following safety tips:
- You can encounter pedestrians anytime and anywhere - even in places where they are not supposed to be found.
- Pedestrians can be very hard to see - especially in bad weather or at night. You must keep a lookout and slow down if you can't see clearly.
- When entering a crosswalk area, drive slowly and be prepared to stop.
- Stop for pedestrians who are in a crosswalk, even if it is not marked.
- Do not overtake and pass other vehicles stopped for pedestrians.
- Be especially attentive around schools and in neighborhoods where children are active.
Pedestrians are reminded of the following safety tips:
- Cross at the crosswalk. Don't cross in the middle of the street.
- Stop before you start to cross the street. Look to the left, right, and left again. Cross when it's clear.
- Continue to look for traffic, especially for vehicles turning right on a red light.
- Make eye contact with the driver before you cross in front of a car. Sometimes drivers don't see you.
- If there is a pedestrian signal at an intersection, don't start to cross when it is flashing.
- Always use a sidewalk when you can.
- Watch out for cars backing out of parking spaces and driveways.
