Fort Lauderdale – City of Fort Lauderdale to host Veterans Day Commemoration featuring special tribute to Fort Hood.

WHO: The City of Fort Lauderdale

WHAT: The City of Fort Lauderdale in cooperation with the Air Force Association Gold Coast Chapter 351will host a Veteran’s Day Commemoration to recognize the men and women who have honorably served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. The event will include a keynote address from Korean War Double Ace Major General Frederick C. “Boots” Blesse. Blesse is recognized as one of the top fighter pilots.

The City of Fort Lauderdale will also unveil a special tribute banner dedicated to our fallen heroes at Fort Hood, which attendees will sign to express sympathy to the victims’ families.

Other event highlights will include speakers from the Fort Lauderdale City Commission, recognition of local veterans organizations and a musical performance by students from the Dillard Center for the Arts.

The ceremony will culminate with the rededication of the newly restored F-86H Sabre Jet Memorial and unveiling of commemorative plaques.

WHEN: Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11 a.m.

WHERE: Holiday Park (in front of the War Memorial Auditorium), 1000 E. Sunrise Boulevard

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the War Memorial Auditorium located inside Holiday Park.
