Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex to Host YMCA Masters National Swimming Championships April 16 - 19

Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale will host the YMCA Masters National Swimming Championships Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19 at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex, located at 501 Seabreeze Boulevard.

Admission for spectators is free. The timed final competition for each day begins Thursday, April 16 at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 2:00 p.m.

This year marks the eighth year the City of Fort Lauderdale has hosted this event (1992,1993,1998, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009). Of the 650 athletes competing, 328 represent YMCAs in Florida, including the Broward YMCA. Competitors from 19 to 91 years of age are part of 50 teams that will compete for titles in 44 events.

Three-time Olympic Gold Medalist Rowdy Gaines will compete for the Lake Mary YMCA Masters Team. Local athletes from the Greater Fort Lauderdale area will compete for the Broward YMCA and the YMCA of Central Texas. Other area teams include Orlando YMCA, Sarasota YMCA and the South Palm Beach YMCA. The remaining participants are primarily from the Midwest and Eastern states.
