Fort Lauderdale – The City of Fort Lauderdale will host the Inaugural Perry E. Thurston, Jr. AAA Baseball Tournament scheduled on April 3-5 at Joseph C. Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard. The event will begin with a kick-off celebration on Friday, April 3 from 6 to 8 p.m., followed by tournament games on Saturday and Sunday, April 4-5 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A closing ceremony will be held on Sunday as the tournament concludes.
The tournament is the brainchild of State Representative Perry E. Thurston, Jr. Representative Thurston believes that baseball’s prominence is shrinking as other sports gain more popularity, and his goal is to foster baseball back into our community through a grassroots effort.
The Thurston Baseball Tournament is committed to revitalizing America’s pastime through engaging local communities in the sport. The tournament is produced by the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Parks and Recreation Department, which co-sponsors the event with All Service Refuse, Becker and Poliakoff, Front Porch Florida, HCA of Florida, Pittman Law Group and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 31.
