11th Annual 5K event set for Thursday, April 2, 2009

Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale reminds residents and visitors that the 11th Annual Fort Lauderdale Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run will be held downtown on Thursday, April 2, 2009. Organizers expect over 6,500 participants for the 6:45pm race, which starts at Huizenga Plaza, 32 E Las Olas Boulevard.

Road closings - Pre Race Set up

Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 6pm through Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10pm:

  • Las Olas Boulevard closed between SE 1st Avenue and Andrews Avenue

Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 1pm to 10pm:

  • Las Olas Boulevard additionally closed from SE 1st Avenue to SE 2nd Avenue
  • SE 1st Avenue will be closed from SE 2nd Street to Las Olas Boulevard

Traffic advisory/street detours/lane closures - Race Course

Thurs April 2, 2009:

  • 4:30pm: Participants start arriving; traffic starts to increase; area parking garages will fill with participant traffic
  • 5:30pm to 6:30pm: Participants continue to arrive. Street detours, lane closures, traffic redirection starts on the following roadways:
    • SE 2nd Street between Andrews Avenue and SE 3rd Avenue
    • SE 3rd Avenue from SE 2nd Street to SE 14th Street
    • SE 14th Street from SE 3rd Avenue to S. Andrews Avenue
    • S. Andrews Avenue (northbound lanes) from SE 14th Street to SE 2nd Street
    • 6:45pm to 8:15pm: Actual Race time. Lane closures and traffic redirection in the areas of SE 2nd Street, SE 5th Avenue and Las Olas Boulevard east of SE 3rd Avenue. Expect traffic delays at the start of the race for about 10-15 minutes
    • 9:30pm: Roadways reopen, except for Las Olas Boulevard between Andrews Av and SE 2nd Avenue
    • 10:00pm: East Las Olas Boulevard re-opens to traffic

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department will have over 60 officers stationed along the route to guide pedestrians and motorists to ensure public safety. Affected area roadways will re-open to traffic as the race progresses and safety permits.
