Traffic Advisory for Half Marathon

Fort Lauderdale - The City reminds residents and visitors that the 13.1 Half Marathon will take place in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, November 16, 2008, from 6:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department will have more than 100 officers stationed along the route to ensure public safety and guide motorists and pedestrians. Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic and congestion along the runners’ route and are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Lane Closures
A1A will remain open to vehicular traffic. During the race however, both northbound lanes of A1A will be dedicated to runners. North and southbound vehicular traffic on A1A will be limited to the southbound lanes.
The westbound roadway of SE 17 Street from SE 23 Avenue to Federal Highway will have one to two lanes closed to vehicular traffic from 1:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. One westbound traffic lane will remain open for vehicular traffic through this area.
Road Closure
A temporary road closure will occur on Seabreeze Boulevard at East Las Olas Blvd from 6:00 a.m. - 7:15 a.m. No other roads will be closed prior to or during the half marathon.
Marathon Route
The starting line will be located near the intersection of SE 17 Street and Eisenhower Boulevard. Runners will continue west to Federal Highway, north to Broward Boulevard, east to SE 16 Avenue, south to East Las Olas Boulevard, east to A1A (in the westbound curb lane) and north on A1A past Oakland Park Boulevard. Runners will turn around at NE 40 Street; continue south to NE 35 Street, east to Galt Ocean Drive, south back to A1A at NE 32 Street and south to the finish line inside the South Beach Parking Lot, across from the Bahia Mar Hotel Complex.
