Kingian Nonviolence Workshop Returns to the Mizell Center

Fort Lauderdale - The City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department is pleased to announce the next session of the Kingian Nonviolence Workshop scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in the Mizell Center.
The Kingian Nonviolence Community Workshops are designed to teach alternatives to violent problem solving. The idea behind Kingian Nonviolence Community Workshops is to provide a guide to solving personal and community problems through open dialogue and non-aggressive problem resolution.
The first of the sessions of the Kingian Nonviolence Workshops were held at New Mount Olive Baptist Church and the Mizell Center and touched over 50 adults in the Fort Lauderdale community.
Moreover, The Fort Lauderdale Police successfully completed the Rick Holton Firm, Fair, and Friendly Police/Community Leadership and Diversity Training workshops with more than 450 youth in our city schools. Students from Fort Lauderdale High School, Dillard High School, Stranahan High School, New Middle River Middle School, William Dandy Middle School and Sunrise Middle School and members of the police department addressed the relationship between the community and the police department while learning how to understand each other’s point of view and worked towards the elimination of negative perceptions.
These workshops are intended to strengthen the partnership between the Police Department and the community it serves. It is the desire of the police department to create an environment that is respectful of all citizens and visitors.
