City of Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon Traffic Advisory

Fort Lauderdale - The Second Annual A1A Marathon will take place in Fort Lauderdale from 6:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday, February 18, 2007. Residents and visitors are advised that vehicular traffic will be heavy along the marathon course and should seek alternate routes where possible. Please see below for complete information on altered road conditions.

The race will begin at 6:00 a.m. on SW 2nd Street in front of Esplanade Park and will proceed along the following route:

  • East on SW 2nd Street -- SW 2nd Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between SW 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue from midnight to 8:00 a.m. for race set up
  • South on Andrews Avenue -- Andrews Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 a.m. - 6:30 a.m.
  • East on Las Olas Boulevard to A1A -- E Las Olas will be closed to eastbound traffic from 6:00 a.m - 7:00 a.m.
  • North on A1A to Hillsboro Inlet
  • South on A1A (via Birch State Park)
  • Finish line in the South Beach Parking Lot, 700 Seabreeze Boulevard

The race will alter traffic patterns along A1A from approximately 5:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Sunday, February 18, 2007.  While A1A will be open to vehicles, traffic will be diverted along the marathon route and drivers should seek alternate routes where possible.  Police will be stationed along the route to direct traffic.

Road Closures

  • SW 2nd Street between SW 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue from midnight – 8:00 a.m.
  • Andrews Avenue between South 2nd Street and Las Olas from 6:00 a.m. – 6:30 a.m.
  • East Las Olas will be closed to eastbound traffic from 6:00 a.m – 7:00 a.m.
  • Seabreeze Boulevard at East Las Olas Boulevard from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.

Altered Traffic Patterns

  • The northbound lanes of A1A will be closed to vehicular traffic from 800 Seabreeze Boulevard through 3000 North A1A
  • Northbound traffic will be shifted to one of the southbound lanes of A1A
  • Southbound traffic will be limited to one lane
  • Northbound A1A traffic at Sunrise Boulevard will be diverted to Bayview Drive or US 1
  • Only "local traffic" will be permitted southbound on A1A from 3000 N. A1A to 1151 N. A1A
  • Traffic will not be permitted access to Sunrise Blvd periodically during the marathon

Altered Parking

  • South Beach Parking lot will be closed to the public, drivers should use the Alexander Lot (across from the Aquatic Center) and Intracoastal Lot (at Birch Road and Las Olas)
  • Beachside parallel parking will not be permitted along the east (northbound) side of A1A from Sunrise Boulevard north, through the 1800 block of A1A
  • Parking will not be permitted along East Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to SE 16 Avenue from 5:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Bridge Closure

  • The Las Olas Bridge will be closed to vessel traffic from 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
